Trauma and chronic stress do not just live in our memories; they live in our muscles, our breath, and our nervous system. When we experience overwhelming events, our bodies often “lock” that energy into a state of perpetual readiness—leading to chronic tension, digestive issues, or a feeling of being disconnected from oneself.
At Cedar Tree Counseling in Tulsa, OK, we specialize in Embodiment and Somatic Awareness. This clinical approach moves beyond “talk therapy” to address the physiological roots of distress, helping you inhabit your body with a sense of safety, presence, and ease.
What is Embodiment?
Embodiment is the practice of “coming home” to the body. Most people living with trauma or high anxiety exist primarily from the neck up, treating their body as a vehicle to be controlled rather than a source of wisdom.
Somatic Awareness is the clinical tool we use to bridge this gap. By developing “interoception”—the ability to sense the internal state of the body—you can begin to identify the subtle shifts in your nervous system before they escalate into a panic attack, an emotional outburst, or a total shutdown.
The Body as the “First Responder”
The brain’s survival centers (the brainstem and limbic system) process information much faster than the logical prefrontal cortex. By the time you “think” you are stressed, your body has already reacted.
